It came as a surprise to me that I received a letter from him yesterday. I wrote to him on January 29th and received a reply on February 26th. I had already forgotten that I had written to him, so I was surprised that the letter arrived after a long time.

He wrote: “A relatively short period, 180 days, can be resolved with a simple tourist visa. 2+1 months, twice. To do this, you will only have to leave the country once to another country, where you apply for another tourist visa for 2 months and the +1 month must always be extended at the immigration office, for 1,900 baht. This jumping in and out with a tourist visa only doesn’t work in the long term, because they already tell you to get an annual visa. That’s about it. I was able to stay so far mainly because of my Thai wife, with a marriage visa, which has to be renewed annually.”

I am grateful for the reply. Nevertheless, I would now reject marriage as a means of facilitating residence.

The 2+1 + 2+1 month visa game mentioned by the writer as a solution allows for just as much time to stay abroad as the DTV solution I prefer, but probably cheaper. I think it doesn’t matter now, I won’t change the solution I’ve already come up with, but I can still think about it a bit.

Summary

How did I get lost while searching for a visa? Then how did I find the solution? What would it be?

Where am I going then?

For weeks now, I have been answering questions that I have not yet decided where I will travel. But I always add that the first serious idea that struck me was Thailand. Actually, over the past few weeks, I have collected a lot of information about this country. I have watched a lot of videos.

What if I were to officially formulate the decision today? I had to realize that this question has found a solution!

If I think about what my plan is, I realize that I do not need to complicate this issue any further. Part of my plan is that after a certain time, I will change my place of residence. In other words, if I have to leave, then there is not much point in looking. Let Thailand be the first stop. Once I am there, I will figure out the next one. By the way, I think I will see the second country, and I can also write down that it will probably be Spain. From there, there is really no point in thinking any further. If it goes as I imagine it now, I will leave Thailand sometime in February 2026, and Spain in about 3 months. I will see these and the rest in due time.

If I say that I have made a decision, then I can already manage my affairs more purposefully.

So, I am going to Thailand.

I somehow felt this when I wrote the post titled Health preparation.

Where exactly am I going in Thailand?

Once I’ve gotten this far, I’ll take some time to define my target area within the country. To do this, I’ll use the information database of nomads.com. And the map maker in my toolkit -that I’ve introduced earlier.

I’ve done a filter based on the information on nomads.com for Thailand. Based on the estimated cost of living there, I’ve filtered out the top ten cities that I think I can afford. I’ve placed them on a map. Since I want to start my new life on the beach, four of the ten cities are suitable.

These are:

• Koh Samui
• Ko Tao
• Krabi
• Pattaya

And here’s the map so you can see what I’ll be choosing from in the coming weeks.

How much time can I spend there?

This has been a big puzzle to this day. Even though I read this Wise page twice, for example, I still haven’t gotten any closer to the solution: Thailand visa: types, application process, prices, validity periods, conditions.

I couldn’t figure out how I could spend more than 90 days in Thailand.

3 days ago I found a Facebook page where a guy wrote that he had been living in Thailand for 7 years, that he would help me, that he would answer all my questions, and that I should feel free to contact him. I was very brave and wrote him a letter. He hasn’t replied to me yet.

Today I checked the Official Website of Thailand Electronic Visa. Since I couldn’t find the answers to all my questions here either, I wrote another letter, this time to the Thai embassy in Budapest. I’m hoping I’ll get an answer from there.

Then I suddenly found the answer on the website above, shortly after I sent my letter to the embassy.

Destination Thailand Visa (DTV)

Purpose of the visa: Workcation(digital nomad/remote worker/foreign talent/freelancer). This is it! This is what I need.

Documents required for application:

1. Biodata page of Passport or Travel Document.
2. Photograph taken within the last six months.
3. Document indicating current location.
4. Financial evidence: amount of no less than 500,000 THB, e.g. bank statements, sponsorship letter.
5. Employment contract or employment certificate in their country or professional portfolio showcasing digital nomad, remote worker, foreign talent or freelancer status.

The visa is valid for 5 years. It costs 10,000 THB, about 300 USD. You can stay in the country for 180 days, and it can be extended for 90 days for 1,900 THB, which is about 57 USD.

Summary

Then, at the end of August, I will be moving to Thailand, for which I will have to choose from four cities sometime in the next few weeks and apply for a DTV visa on the official Thai website sometime in July.
