Sometimes I have to take paths that ultimately seem fruitless, just to get somewhere. I could apply this idea to any area of my life. Now it's my turn to look for a job.

This is my 200th post. Actually, it’s my 201st post, but I don’t want to get lost in the world of numbers. Let’s go to another world!

This number wants me to write something serious.

I could defend myself by saying that I only write about serious things, but I think even I would laugh at myself.

This post is very close to what this blog was originally intended to do. Maybe it can help someone else who wants to become a digital nomad.

Job search in the online world

I decided to share my experience with location-independent job search mainly because this area is full of avoidable traps. These traps are mainly embodied in the promises offered by prepaid systems.

Because promises and good-sounding advertising are behind almost every system.

I had to chew my way through a few systems to finally arrive somewhere. I didn’t know it at first, but these systems not only didn’t give me work, but also forced me to finally articulate who I am professionally.

But I’m not starting here.

If you are not present, you do not exist.

I used these and similar phrases to position the characters on this page. I made a cover photo that looked (as professional as I could) professional, I found the most professional profile picture.

I uploaded my completely up-to-date CV (see, “About my CV and its uselessness”), turned all my experience into gold, and waited for employers to come knocking. Obviously, everyone would want to work with me.

I had a few inquiries. The first one came straight from LinkedIn. I mean, if I subscribe to the professional Premium system (about 200,000 HUF, 600 USD) per year, my chances would be much better. This offer comes up weekly.

Then a few people contacted me because they saw my CV and everything in it was so professional, but they would help me make it even more professional. I had already rejected this opportunity, and it wasn’t hard to say no this time either.

Then network builders started looking for me, and they imagined me joining all kinds of sales networks that offered serious success.

So, I had to realize that despite all my efforts and experience, the dog wasn’t even interested in me.

Of course, I set up job monitoring emails, so every day I see dozens of opportunities in my inbox that I can’t do anything about. But I’ll write about that a little later.

Job offering systems in general

Every system is free. I mean, it promises to be free.

Yeah! Sorry! Usually it’s not.

But who expects anyone to operate such a serious system for free? Someone has to pay for it, and it’s obvious that the unfortunate job seeker has to take a share of this payment.

These kinds of systems pose a serious risk for every future digital nomad!

To feel like you’re doing everything you can to get a job, you have to take these systems seriously. Filling out your professional profile is already a time investment in a system like this.

Obviously, I have to show myself, and seriously. Profile picture. Uploading your CV is often tricky because you have to fill in all the data almost line by line. Schools, workplaces, dates from to, the stupid date selectors, mandatory selection fields that don’t recognize Hungarian universities.

Then comes the name of the job you want to fill, which is an entrance to a fantasy world even in Hungarian, let alone in the terms dreamed up by the inventors of all kinds of systems.

The icing on the cake is that in many systems the number of jobs is limited. Let’s say 5. In other words, choose carefully, because that’s what your results will depend on. If you’ve been working as a facility manager for 30 years, then there’s no problem, because you only have to enter this one. But if you happen to have worked in 20 different jobs in 30 years, then pull yourself together and make a responsible decision.

So, let’s say you can spend hours registering on an average job search system. Then comes the search. Because this search is also a trap.

You can search for free and happily in several systems. Then when you have found the job of your dreams and would like to apply, it turns out that you already have to register to apply.

UpWork

This is a site offering project jobs.

Sites like this have been in my sights for about 10 months, but I haven’t put in the serious work to look for them here. So I tried this system.

It offers a lot of small jobs that I can do single-handedly. It shows job fees transparently, with descriptions that meet expectations.

Well. Last year’s registration just needs to be oiled up a little and I’ll be a millionaire.

When applying for the first job, it turns out that you don’t have to pay for it. The system only deducts from the available so-called connections for each offer I submit. I get 100 of the connections when registering, and applying for a job costs 10-20 connections. After 5 applications, the connections run out, but don’t worry, I can buy more for myself for a few USD.

But the system is free, because I don’t pay with money, but with connections. If we replace the word “konnekt” with “krumpli”, it will still only mean that we have to buy the potato.

Let’s get over this pitiful job and buy a few “konnekts” and become a subscriber in the system, because then we will only have more opportunities. By the time I blinked twice, I had already spent 20,000 HUF (60 USD) in this system. It’s okay, a good investment, because soon the job that lays the golden egg will be there.

I quickly applied for about 20 jobs and waited for the next email to arrive with the sound of the cash register jingling instead of the usual email beep.

After two days, I was still looking at the fact that the person I sent my job applications to hadn’t even opened them.

That’s when you have to look deeper into the system.

This is an evaluation system. The employer evaluates the employee, and vice versa. There are dozens of applicants for every job.

The system puts applicants without a rating – like me – at the bottom of the applicant list. The job offerer looks at the ones at the top of the list, chooses from the top 3, and we’re done. Of course, no one expects a person offering a job for 100 USD to look at the data and offers of 70 applicants.

Because when you apply for a job, you are actually making an offer. (And you are using up your connections.) So, if your offer is even professionally suitable, but someone – say, from a poorer region – would do the job for half the price, then you don’t have much chance of being selected.

Overall, you have to compete not only with applicants with more ratings, but also with those who work significantly cheaper.

The system came up with this idea that you can boost your application by offering extra connections to get to the top of the list. Of course, it is impossible to know the extent of this, so if you find a good job, then BID 100 more in addition to the 17 connections, so that you might be the first.

In the meantime, hope that your colleague didn’t go to the top of the list with 200.

I’m not kidding, when I activated this system, I had a few connections in front of me, and then the next day I woke up to 200 emails waiting in my inbox. All with excellent offers.

I had fun with this system for a few more days.

In the meantime, I redirected the emails from the inbox to a special folder. In this folder now, two weeks after registration, there are 1,673 unread job offers waiting for me
to never read them.

This system simply doesn’t work. Despite having 30+ years of professional experience, I am a snotty, bottom-of-the-list beginner to the system. I can spend any amount of money to apply, I don’t think I’ll make a dent in this or similar systems.

Things got a little funny after that. Just as I was starting to realize that I wasn’t going to get anywhere with this system, an ad popped up in my news feed.

It was nice to get confirmation from an advertisement that my intuition was right and UpWork was useless, as you can see in the picture, the fake job offers generated by AI make it impossible to function normally.

Fortunately, the advertisement provided the solution. I should try their old system and I won’t be disappointed. Maybe the symmetry of the advertisement (only the even sentences have a period at the end) strengthened my trust, but I gave this system a chance too.

They promised that after registration, the system would be so AI-driven that I would only have to prepare for the interviews that were organized, I wouldn’t have anything else to do.

This sounded so good that I didn’t wait long to register.

Start for free! – we start from here. The first question was about the stress factor during the login, the essence of it was about how urgent it was to find a job, the scale ranged from I’m really relaxed to I’ll get the job right away.

On the next screen, a motivational piece of advice reassured me that I wasn’t one of the scum of the world just because I didn’t have a job.

Then I could enter the job titles I wanted to apply for. You can enter a maximum of five, and the AI ​​helps in the selection by correcting the entered title to industry standard.

Now comes the selection of experience level.

These few pieces of data were enough to immediately give me the encouragement: “Thanks to your rich professional background, you have a good chance of reaching the highest level of opportunities.”

This AI knows something to draw this conclusion from all this. And if this isn’t a conclusion, then I’m already in trouble with this system.

Now comes the expected annual salary level. For me, the fact that the salary selection slider is politely set to 40 million HUF (120,000 USD) per year is already a warning sign.

I reduced the number to be on the safe side, so that I could fall on my face in the face of reality.

You still have to provide the industry, the type of employment and when I am able to work, plus whether I am willing to move for work.

And it already analyzes the vast amount of data I provided. After the analysis, there are also demographic questions, it is certainly important for employment that I do not define myself in a binary or heterosexual way.

Then we’re there to give you my card details. With all the usual trappings of such offers: This is a reduced offer, but it’s only available for 10 minutes and the clock is ticking. The basic package is chosen only by the losers, the middle one is what everyone spins.

It doesn’t matter, it’s all just a big blah-blah-blah.

Most of these systems want to ask for money without me even knowing exactly why I’m paying.

Good luck to everyone with these systems, but be careful!

Professional identity

If nothing else, these systems helped me by highlighting that my search method was not appropriate.

The question of what to call my future job title presented me with a difficult task, because I realized that I couldn’t clearly articulate it, or even define it with a single good title.

So I slowly had to realize that my personal, spiritual self-definition journey was complemented by the desire to formulate my professional identity.

This task did not scare me, and I only thought a little about whether it was safe to shine the flashlight of a midlife crisis on it from the outside. Personally, I do not feel myself to be either midlife or in crisis, so I will not identify with this well-known terminology now.

I would like to point out once again that this is a task. And it has never scared me. So I got over it in the past week.

So now I am much more specific in targeting job advertisements, and even positions that I had not even considered before have come into my sights.

Overall, I do not regret spending some time and energy with job search systems, that through my own unpleasant experiences I have come to a new realization and task. The point is that by the end of the process, I have a clearer view of who I am in the world of remote work.

So I suggest that if you want to live abroad and haven’t done so yet, you should also think about whether to go for it or try it out first!

A week that is not a vacation, but a test run

I have written several times, and I have mentioned several times in the past that I am aware that I am not going on vacation to the other side of the world. I am simply moving my living space and my work area to a place where people prefer to go on vacation. In my opinion, this is very important to clarify. First of all, for myself, but also for my environment.

Several people asked me if I had been to Thailand before, and if I thought it would be a good idea to go there for a week or two first to try out what life is like there.

I do not feel it is important to move my life to another place as a test, because I know myself very well. I know exactly that whatever I will encounter in Thailand, I will enjoy my stay there. I know that it will be hot, the air is humid, basically a tropical climate that I have never experienced before, but despite this, I cannot really imagine giving up my stay there because of the heat. I was prepared for the loneliness, I was prepared for the isolation caused by foreign languages, etc. Since I want to be there, I will feel good there. And if it turns out that I was wrong, I’ll not afraid to admit it.

However, this is not the case with everyone. Everyone is flexible, resilient, and everyone sticks to what they want to achieve in different ways.

With different perspectives and different carrying capacities, it is worth thinking about the following questions:

• Will you try out the nomadic life or not before the “real departure”?
• Are you aware that the goal is not to relax, but to live a normal life in a different environment, with work and daily routine?
• Where would you go, under what circumstances (country, city, accommodation, timing)?

However, there are also factors of the trial trip that need to be looked at with a different eye.

Key components of nomadic living

I’m thinking of things that aren’t just a matter of whether I can tolerate it, like it, or if I don’t care about it. There are factors that have to be there, otherwise the nomadic lifestyle doesn’t work. Of course, there are things here where I can be flexible.

What am I thinking of?

1) Questions about working on the go

• How stable is the internet?
• How much can you focus in a given environment?
• What can work well, what will bother you?
• Coworking or working in a café or accommodation

A stable internet is essential in this working environment. I can’t be a digital nomad without a digital network! I started collecting experiences related to this during the Nomad Cruise.

I think the issue of focus and distracting circumstances is a multifaceted issue. On the one hand, there is the experience that the home office, which has become more and more common and experienced in recent years, will provide for all of us. Those who have not yet experienced what it means to work from home may need a test trip abroad to get some practice in this. Start!

What bothers you, what doesn’t? A good pair of headphones works wonders in blocking out distracting sounds from the outside world. Especially if your favorite relaxing music is also recorded on one of the surfaces. But if there are shootings and explosions in the street, for example, then this will not be enough. That is why, if possible, I will not go to work in a war environment. And in general, for any reason…

For those who may not have heard of it:

Coworking is a work environment where professionals from different backgrounds, often independent, entrepreneurs or small companies, work together in a shared office. These spaces offer flexible rental options and promote community relations and collaboration. The goal of coworking is to provide an inspiring, professional environment while supporting networking and knowledge sharing. It is especially popular among digital nomads and freelancers.

You should imagine working in a cafe as sitting down somewhere, buying something to give, not just receive, and working there for a few hours. There are places that really like it when you sit there as a digital nomad, but I’ve also met a place where they looked at me in a bad way after I’ve been sitting at a desk for an hour. There’s nothing more annoying than when they start letting me know it’s time to go. There are apps that give you information about places in a given city that love you. One such database is nomads.com.

Working from home also has its beauty. I really like working from home, in solitude. I think it’s likely that I’ll work from home at first. Especially if the diarrhea promised at the vaccination center comes true. Then I’ll move my desk in front of the toilet. After the initial period, I’ll look for a cafe, which could even be a bar. And, once I’m over that, I’ll look into the possibility of coworking, but that’s definitely not what I’m looking for at first.

2) Daily routine and schedule

• When do you get up, when do you work, how does your day go?
• What is missing from your usual environment?
• What is better here than at home?

If you don’t have a routine in these matters, then this lifestyle will certainly pose more challenges for you. If you have only worked as an employee, then you are used to when you have to get up, when you get home, you have a schedule. In the first period of entrepreneurial life – in my opinion – everyone struggles with having to get up due to different schedules, but they have to get up in the morning. Or they don’t get up, but then they know that they will continue working in the afternoon.

The question of the schedule is a bit similar to the question of whether during the Covid period, a person dressed “properly” for working from home, or spent their days at home in pajamas. A schedule is always needed!

For example, I work at home in underwear because I like it. I assume that it will be similar in Thailand, especially because of the temperature. I will change clothes on the way to the coffee shop. I will check out the coworking office to see how others use it. Maybe it also functions as a communal sauna.

For my part, I imagine that I will not miss anything from my home environment, based on what I wrote in my post “I live a minimalist life”. I have also thought a lot about the question “what is better anywhere else”. Since one of the bases of my decision falls precisely into this question, I do not expect to be disappointed wherever I am. There will be better and worse things everywhere. I do not even want to talk about the fact that finding a place is not my primary goal.

3) Testing your technical equipment

This is also an important question. But, you don’t necessarily have to go to the place where you’re going to live – especially not for a week. I was already able to test out my Vasco translator. The free eSim I got during the Nomad Cruise didn’t work. I didn’t have an internet solution on the ship, I was dependent on the official internet. I didn’t have the opportunity to plug my laptop into the outlet in Marseille. I did buy a converter, but I realized at home that it was the wrong one.

There are a lot of questions that may arise regarding technology.

For example, yesterday I saw a video in which I was warned – among other things – not to take a power bank to Thailand because I would get in trouble at the airport.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Personally, I – due to my flexibility, which I have already detailed many times – don’t think it’s important to have everything prepared in advance and then solve it on the spot. If this is not comfortable for you, it’s worth thinking about a trial trip.

Life in a new place – beyond comfort

The following questions arose in my mind regarding comfort:

• How will you cope with the language, culture, transportation?
• Food, shopping, cooking – will it be Menton or rather chaotic?
• Connecting with people – or will it be a lonely experience?

Anyone who likes to think ahead, take care of things, or perhaps worry in advance will certainly appreciate the above questions. All question marks, with uncertain, intuition-based answers.

For my part, these questions did not justify taking a test trip either.

Regarding language, I have the expectation that I will not be able to use my only foreign language without problems, English, unconditionally, but I trust Vasco. I am not worried about the food, especially since “The gastronomic revolution eluded me”. Connectivity is a current movement in my world, see my post “Nomad Cruise Summary”.

Surprises – good and bad

When I think about the new life, sometimes it occurs to me that it is worth developing a strategy for dealing with “surprises”. I am not writing about avoidance directly! Rather, I am writing about preparing for the fact that something bad, but otherwise common, will happen.

What do I mean?

• What is it that you did not expect? Can it teach you something?
• “Crash moment”? How will you handle it? What and who will you turn to?
• And success? Will you cope with it?

Once again! Here, the essence of thinking ahead is not avoidance, but damage mitigation. It could be environmental overload, disrupted sleep rhythm, diarrhea, sudden weight loss, weight gain. Depression, burnout. They get robbed. They lose something. Something gets ruined. An accident happens.

I am not sure that I am the best person at mapping out negative things in advance, because I usually look to the future with excessive optimism. You might need to find a really negative, pessimistic person and brainstorm possible problems with them. Once you have the problems, all you have to do is think of possible solutions and you’re done.

Am I prepared?

Even without a trial trip, I have the thoughts in my head that I know I’m not ready – but I don’t have to be perfect, just be present. I’ve thought about what might happen, I’m prepared for what I’ve thought of so far. Not all of these things are perfectly worked out, but that doesn’t make me anxious. Finally, I’m aware that there will be things along the way that I didn’t think of. I’m friends with these thoughts! What do you think about your own journey?

As a final thought, I remember an interesting memory from when I was around 16. At the time, I told my grandfather that I wanted to have children when I knew all the answers to the questions about raising children. Then, as time went on, I realized that not only would I not know all the answers before my children were born, but I also couldn’t formulate most of the questions. By the time I actually had children, I knew that I wasn’t looking for questions and answers, I just had to be present. The right questions would arise along the way. And if I had the talent and luck, I would know the right answers at the right time.

The truth is that I’ve been through some pretty noisy weeks, so I’ve really had less time to sit in front of my laptop. I could even say that I’ve had better things to do. For example, I went fishing with a friend once this week, and I’m going out with him again today. We just chat while he tries to catch the fish. From Friday to Sunday, we’ll have our traditional family fishing trip, where my dad and my two brothers try to catch the fish. It’s a good thing that fishing isn’t one of my hobbies…

Statistics

I’m the Excel guru, sometimes I have to bring a spreadsheet. After I also felt like I was writing less, I checked my statements to see how I was doing. The number of posts for the last 10 weeks looks like this:

When I started the blog, my goal was to write three posts a week, and I haven’t changed that goal since. In the past 10 weeks, the average weekly post has been 2.8, so I don’t think the difference between the plan and the reality is significant. I still get more and more comments from my friends that they’re behind on reading…

As my preparation time goes by

From now on, my writing will be a bit chaotic, like my days have been lately. I’ll simply describe what I’ve been doing most of my time in the past few weeks.

Well, in the past few weeks, I’ve been to the Office of Documents, where I almost managed to get my international driving license done, among other things. What the success of the attempt depended on is to be found deep in the labyrinth of bureaucratic absurdities.

I’d like to mention here that I have a writing project in the works, to which I’ve already written several chapters in the past few years. It’s called “Official Stories” and I’ll publish it at some point. Based on the title, you can guess that I will be presenting my adventures in the writings while doing various administrative tasks. Now that I have read this article, I will publish one of my favorites in a future post. Even more so since the story is related to the car I am currently selling. The title of the story is “Certificate of car”.

Back to the international driver’s license. The office takes a bunch of photos of everyone: elementary school kids for their student ID, adults with expired driver’s licenses, and those applying for a passport. Those applying for an international driver’s license don’t… I read earlier that I had to bring a photo of myself for this driver’s license, but I was sure that this was wrong information, and I knew that the city I was going to had a photo booth. There really was, but not for me. So, after taking care of one of my affairs, I had to go to the other side of the city to have my photo taken. By the time I got back and got a new number, my time at the office was running out. In the end, I had to leave the battlefield two hours before my own number. No problem. Next time!

I’m continuing my job search relentlessly. I already have quite a few applications in the pipeline. There are also opportunities in Hungary, see the article titled “My References”. I have better and better ideas about using ChatGPT on the job search front, but I have already written about some of them. I am very excited about my opportunities. I also know exactly how long I can finance my next life if I don’t have a job. Let’s say I don’t expect that, but as we know, the devil never sleeps. On top of that, he even beats his wife.

My things to sell are getting smaller, which is good news, because I will leave fewer problems behind in the country. It would be nice if everything I wanted to sell was actually sold.

I started packing up my things that I will be leaving behind at home. Actually, quite a few of my clothes ended up in the trash. A relatively small pile will remain here in Bábolna, so that if I come back to the country without clothes, I will have something to wear.

My brother and I did quite a few things around the house, or maybe a little further away within the family circle. We dug a fence and terrace foundation, cleaned the yard, and made a garden gate.

I went hiking with my friends 3 weeks ago. The end of the day caught us at one of the Bakony lookouts. There we fried our bacon and drank our wine. We washed down the wine with pálinka. It was a good day. At the end, there were already two young guys at the lookout by the time we got there. Later, another young man came, so in the end, six of us slept on various floors of the lookout. Before that, the evening almost turned into a house party. While we were having dinner together downstairs, a young couple was having sex on the top of the lookout. They were up there for quite a while. When they came down, the guy said to us with such kindness that he could barely contain his hands, “Have a nice evening, guys!” Well, there is a moment when I don’t know whether this was a sincere wish or more of a boast.

For two weeks now, I’ve been spending my Sunday afternoons at a friend’s house, where we play board games with a good group of friends. After the first time, based on my friends’ spontaneous idea, I drank a few gin and tonics and slept there too. I’m going to their place this weekend too. These afternoons are very pleasant.

A few days ago, the Nomad Cruise 5-6 thematic WhatsApp chat started. Many of us are going to Marseille first and many of us want to meet the others. We’re introducing ourselves to each other, looking for roommates, brainstorming ideas about how to spend our time. More and more people are writing all sorts of things every day. In two weeks, at this time – I hope – we’ll be sitting in a French pub with a few good friends and drinking some … I don’t know what!

If I wasn’t working out in the past few weeks, I was cycling with one of my friends. It’s been a strange feeling lately to cycle in and around the village where I lived for 11 years, but I haven’t cycled in 8 years.

I’ll only be going to work 15 times by the end of June. All my holidays are booked, and I already know when I’ll be spending my last days at home in home office. I’m trying to keep up with my work in the same way as I did the previous two years, but these days are different. There are already tasks that aren’t worth starting. The heir to my position is already there, and I’ll meet him on Monday the 16th when I get home from Athens, and we’ll have the opportunity to talk about the handover and takeover of the work. I hope that in the few days that we meet then, I can help him with the first steps of his journey.

In vain, summer is here, there have been many spontaneous opportunities to spend my time pleasantly. But I’m also taking time to write, in addition to the many outdoor activities.

I’m over the noisy weekdays. And I’m enjoying what awaits me in the next three months. From July I’ll be a little freer, because by all indications I won’t have a job yet. I’m planning to move down to the Alföld for a few days to a friend’s place. I’m also planning a trip to England for a few days, maybe a week, where another friend of mine and his wife are waiting.

I was thinking about traveling to a European country in July to practice the digital nomad lifestyle there. I have a few friends who could help with shipping in Spain, Los Alcázares, or Tenerife, England, even Romania or Slovenia. In fact, I also have contacts in Transylvania. However, this remains just a thought, because in July and August I still have 3 vaccination days and 3 Saturday teaching days in addition to the above trips.

I also have to prepare for the boat trip: I don’t have a backpack yet, I tried to buy a pair of white jeans for the white night party today, but they weren’t in my size at the store. I need the medicine for seasickness.

By the way, I asked AI about this: “I read this: The best medicine for seasickness is a patch called Scopolamine, which you can stick behind the ear. Where can I get this? Could you help me?” The answer started quite encouragingly: Unfortunately, in Hungary, the scopolamine patch (e.g. Scopoderm) that can be stuck behind the ear is not currently available, as it is not a licensed product in our country. If you insist on the scopolamine patch, you can get it from foreign online pharmacies, for example: EuroClinix, Inhouse Pharmacy. You can order on these sites after a medical consultation, and the product will be delivered to your home. However, it is important to note that a medical certificate may be required when importing it to Hungary, as the drug is not licensed in Hungary. Failure to do so may result in legal consequences. In my post “Self-knowledge and self-identity in my eyes” I wrote that I also wrote to two coach friends about my mentoring. I am very happy that both ladies accepted my request and I can meet both of them 6 days apart. I wrote down 21 questions in 5 topics, based on which I imagined a framework for mentoring. Of course, we approach it spontaneously…

I am beyond noisy weekdays… I love this hustle and bustle. I love my life!

He started a new business two years ago in his 20-year career, which fits in well with my professional background. We agreed that I should send him my professional introduction. We had previously talked about less dry areas of life.

I formatted the “Who am I?” file mentioned in the “30-second pitch” post a little further and sent it to him, because it contains everything.

The answer came in a short time, including the question of whether I could show references. From here on, I will quote my own letter.

I don’t even know how long I’ve been planning to prepare for such an introduction. But first, let’s look at the background of this concept!

What happens when you meet a millionaire in an elevator?

It’s called an elevator pitch.

Imagine this: you’re getting into an elevator at a conference or in a skyscraper. There’s only one passenger standing next to you: a successful, well-respected millionaire entrepreneur. You recognize him. He looks at you, nods. The door closes. You have 30 seconds.

This is the moment when preparedness and opportunity meet – and it could be something big. Or nothing.

It’s not enough to introduce yourself. You can’t just list your resume. Instead, you need to spark something of value or curiosity in him in a flash. A thought, a grain of salt that makes him say, “That’s interesting – let’s talk later.”

The challenge in this case is not (only) what you say – but what presence, conviction and insight you have with which you do it. A good elevator pitch in this situation does not sell, but engages. It raises a question, not an answer.

The millionaire is not looking for how perfect you are – but whether there is something in you that he recognizes as an opportunity.

Therefore, it is important that you not only learn your text, but also be able to use your inner voice: who you are, what you represent and what you want to communicate to the world – whether 10 or 100 million people listen to it.

I worked with ChatGPT again. His summary is interesting because I asked him to write a short, few-sentence piece about this concept after the work we did in this post, so his answer is relevant to me. Here it is:

How we worked with AI?

How can AI help me create my own concise introduction?

In my opinion, the useful use of AI depends on two things: a well-worded question and the basic data related to the question.

The question can be subjective or objective, but it is definitely my business. However, based on my experience, AI always helps to refine the question with appropriate feedback. This means that often you don’t even have to think about the question itself, you just have to skillfully continue the dialogue started based on the question with the program.

The basic data is usually available to AI. In fact, this and the 570 billion parameter language model are enough for almost everything.

In this case, however, it is about me, so – if I don’t want to create a general introduction that can be applied to anyone – I need to give ChatGPT data about myself.

That’s why I created a Word file before asking. I simply took my already ready CV (“About my resume and its uselessness”) and at the end I added my introductions that I had previously written under my two own domains, as well as my public introduction links. All in Hungarian. This created the PDF file that you can view here.

From here, I only had one question for the AI: I need a 30-second pitch introduction. I have collected a lot of information about myself in the attached document. Could you prepare this short introduction for me?

My presentation was finally completed in 7 versions. In the next few days, I will continue to work on the topic on my own. I will choose the appropriate version, refine it if I feel it is necessary. Then I will learn the text and the presentation style in both Hungarian and English. Because of course, at the end of the work, I asked the AI ​​to translate the entire material for me. To do this, I first created a file again, into which I copied the versions it generated.

I love the thoroughness of the AI: translation is not a servile task for it either. This is what it said: Here are the English versions for the pitches you copied, broken down by style. These faithfully follow the original message, but of course they have also been adapted to the English language and cultural environment – ​​especially considering the international, open, entrepreneurial audience of Nomad Cruise.

Regarding the position I wrote in the post “My first job application”, they promised a response within 2 weeks. It ended up being 6+ weeks, but I received a polite rejection first. I responded quickly and thanked them for the notification.

Life goes on, as it does in other areas, including job hunting. This was the first feedback, I haven’t received any response to my other applications yet.

However, in addition to the rejection – in exchange for my efforts and time – I received a 250 EUR coupon as a gift, which I will be able to use on my next Nomad Cruise.

Job Search

This is my most important task. I look at the job offers on the collected sites with great zeal, and I have already applied for several job opportunities. I have not received any feedback from anywhere, but based on my experience so far, I consider this natural. The Nomad Cruise feedback was promised “in two weeks”, which is tomorrow by the way. I really want to do that job, so I am waiting for the feedback with a good kind of excitement.

Vaccinations

I checked in at the vaccination center today. I had an appointment for tomorrow, but – I’ll explain why – I don’t have a car right now. So tomorrow would have been uncertain in terms of travel. Plus, we agreed with “My friend, Pista” for tomorrow to come to me and start designing his website together under his newly registered domain.

So, I’m going to the vaccination center next Wednesday. Based on today’s phone conversation, I might get all my vaccinations that day. I might arrive home like a piece of cheese that day, I’m assuming about seven vaccinations in advance.

International driving license

I tried to get started on this matter today, but unfortunately I’m experiencing for the thousandth time how impotent the Hungarian national administrative system is. I have to go to the government window for this maneuver. I almost checked in, but then I remembered that I don’t have my ID photo, so I still have to take care of that. I think I’ll solve this next week when I go into town for the vaccinations anyway.

Car sales

I took my car to the service station on Monday. Its technical license expires in May, but I would like to see the Toyota on the market in May. The car has been in the service station since yesterday, maybe I will get it back tomorrow. On Monday, the IT system of the technical exam handed over the key, today the mechanic was snowed in, maybe tomorrow I will have a valid technical license.

My younger brother gave me a complete exterior and interior cleaning of the car for my birthday. On Monday, I called the specialist, with whom we agreed to agree on a specific date for the cleaning tomorrow, which is certain that it will only be possible in May. No problem, one of the watchwords of these months is patience anyway.

Once the car is shining, my older daughter will take pictures of it in a nice location that has already been selected. She has the knowledge and professional camera to take beautiful pictures of the sparklingly clean car.

I already know the starting price of the car, all the technical data for the ad is ready, so with the photos in hand I immediately start advertising my – for a long time – last car.

In my heart I am already at the point where I am no longer a car owner.

Assets to sell

My guitar amp is sold, I had a bad offer for the guitar, my effects have a new owner, we just argued about the price today. I have a sauna to sell, and maybe a serious treadmill. The used goods market is slow, but there is nothing urgent here either. Fortunately, I am not selling them because I need money, but simply so that they are not in anyone’s way. Also, they are worth more to me in money than as a memory tucked away in a corner, thousands of kilometers away.

My laptop has only received fake applications, I will probably lower the price.

Accommodation in Koh Samui

I have been looking at the rental properties page in the past few days. I see the same properties as I did months ago. This may give me some reason to worry, but of course I am not worried about it either. Isn’t the supply so constant because no one wants to rent these apartments? Work related

This is not strictly related to the topic, but it is important in that I have the date of my last day at work. Considering the holidays that are due so far, home office options, the number of vacation days that have been posted and not yet posted, I have already started the countdown. Since it is past midnight, the exact number: I will be going to this workplace 29 more times.

We are working on the project that I took into account when timing my resignation. We will soon be over the first phase of our EU NIS2 audit. The second phase will be in November, so no matter how loyal I am to my employer, I could not wait for this.

A week after my resignation, one of my colleagues also resigned. There is no connection between our two jobs, it is a simple coincidence. So I may even have to choose a new colleague in the coming weeks.

As a last resort, ChatGPT – as a style and language assistant – remained. For example, it can help you correct grammatical errors, rewrite the style (more formal, relaxed, fluent), or check whether the text is clear.

There are spell checkers on the Internet, but such a writing assistant is not available in Hungarian.

2. Scapple – Best for Brainstorming

Scapple is a simple, visual note-taking and mind-mapping program designed primarily for writers and creatives. It allows you to freely place text boxes on the canvas and then connect them according to logical relationships – just like taking notes on paper, only more flexible. It is especially useful for brainstorming, sketching, or organizing thoughts without having to adapt to a fixed structure.

I had not heard of this application before, but I found it useful at first glance. What’s more, it turned out to be a product of the same development company from which I have been happily using Scrivener for years.

This program does not need a Hungarian equivalent, it is a universally usable program. It can be used for free for 30 days, after which you can purchase perpetual usage rights for an affordable amount.

3. Evernote – Best for Capturing Ideas

Evernote is a digital note-taking app that lets you organize text, images, voice memos, and documents in one place. It lets you easily create notes, lists, or even entire project files, which you can organize and label into folders. It syncs across all your devices, so you can access your notes anytime, anywhere.

I checked out this app. It might be good for what it was designed for. I use the aforementioned Todoist for this type of note-taking, but this tool could also be a great alternative for someone who has a lot of ideas and just wants to throw them together before organizing them.

4. CoSchedule Headline Analyzer – Best for First Impressions

This tool sounds really useful: CoSchedule Headline Analyzer is an online tool that helps you write effective, attention-grabbing headlines for marketing, blog, or social media content. It analyzes a given headline for emotional impact, length, keywords, and readability, and then scores it. The goal is to get the headline to get the most clicks and attention online.

I couldn’t try this because I didn’t want to go through the registration process myself.

I was surprised by this app! I conscientiously tried the web app. Without changing anything, I took a few chapters of my post from yesterday and copied them into the editor. It immediately made suggestions for transformation, even though I wrote the texts in Hungarian.

For the sake of example, I also showed it the two paragraphs above. Yay. It found nothing to improve in these two paragraphs.

Since it works so well in my native language, there’s no need to look for an alternative!

This application only works in English and has a limited range. I tried it with a Hungarian text, but it said it was almost unreadable. In vain, our language is difficult to understand with an English head. When I copied the second – English – text, it already said that I had reached the limit.

7. Cliché Finder – Best for Ensuring You’re Understood

ClicheFinder.net is a simple online tool that helps you identify clichés and hackneyed expressions in your text. It compares the text you enter with a database of commonly used clichés and then highlights them so that the writer can use fresh, more unique wording. It is especially useful in creative writing, marketing, or editing, where originality and effective wording are important.

Unfortunately, there is no such tool for Hungarian.

9. StayFocusd App – Best for Staying on Task

StayFocusd is a productivity extension for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge that limits the time you spend on distracting websites. The tool allows you to block specific websites or even the entire internet, except for a list of allowed sites, and you can set the duration of the block and the working days. It also has a feature called “Nuclear Option” that instantly blocks selected websites when you need maximum focus.

Noisli is an online sound generator that offers a variety of background noises – such as rain, wind, sea, forest or coffee shop noises – to support concentration, relaxation or creativity. These sound compositions help block out distracting environmental noises, improve productivity and create a more pleasant atmosphere for work or rest.

For me, this app is the bonus for writing this post. I used to use an app where I really liked the sound of rain falling on a tent, but that app became a paid app. This one offers the same experience. I’m glad I found it!

Of the ten recommended apps, I knew two and I use one regularly. (Grammarly, Google Docs.) The Hemingway App is a big surprise for me, I will definitely use it in the future. Scapple is also installed on my computer, and I suspect I will buy its license. Evernote is not new to me, but I have my own tool. CoSchedule Headline Analyzer, Readable and Cliché Finder would be great if they were available for the Hungarian language. StayFocusd App and Noisli have become new members of my toolkit. While I do not have direct experience in affiliate marketing or working with influencers, I have a strong background in relationship-building, leadership, and coaching, which are essential for developing successful partnerships. I have just officially submitted my resignation. A very important sentence of it is the following:
