51. | Surprise

In the post titled Visa to Thailand, I wrote this: “3 days ago I found a Facebook page where a guy wrote that he had been living in Thailand for 7 years, that he would help me, that he would answer all my questions, and that I should feel free to contact him. I was very brave and wrote him a letter. He hasn’t replied to me yet.”

It came as a surprise to me that I received a letter from him yesterday. I wrote to him on January 29th and received a reply on February 26th. I had already forgotten that I had written to him, so I was surprised that the letter arrived after a long time.

He wrote: “A relatively short period, 180 days, can be resolved with a simple tourist visa. 2+1 months, twice. To do this, you will only have to leave the country once to another country, where you apply for another tourist visa for 2 months and the +1 month must always be extended at the immigration office, for 1,900 baht. This jumping in and out with a tourist visa only doesn’t work in the long term, because they already tell you to get an annual visa. That’s about it. I was able to stay so far mainly because of my Thai wife, with a marriage visa, which has to be renewed annually.”

I am grateful for the reply. Nevertheless, I would now reject marriage as a means of facilitating residence.

The 2+1 + 2+1 month visa game mentioned by the writer as a solution allows for just as much time to stay abroad as the DTV solution I prefer, but probably cheaper. I think it doesn’t matter now, I won’t change the solution I’ve already come up with, but I can still think about it a bit.
