Gili Trawangan

189. | Gili: hello 2026!

Summary

The first day of the year on Gili Trawangan unfolds with movement, work, and the closeness of the Indian Ocean. A quiet, present-focused start without plans.

Today is the first day of the year.

I woke up on time, I didn’t have any plans in mind, but I knew roughly what I wanted to do today.

The year started with movement

After breakfast, I went to look for my rented bike. I roughly remembered where I had parked it among the other 200, when the flow of people on the street was so great that even pushing it became impossible.

The morning street didn’t resemble the madness that had dominated everything a few hours earlier. Honestly: it was better this way.

Since I really only vaguely remembered where the vehicle was parked, I looked at about 500 other bikes while walking, before finding it after a 1.5 km walk.

Since the nose of the vehicle was facing the opposite direction of the island promenade, I decided to ride the bike around in the other direction as well. With this, I think I have become a dedicated traveler around the island, because I have done the full circuit for the fourth time in just two days.

When I got back to the hotel, I started my laptop, and with it the work processes for the year 2026.

I have been here in front of my computer for a few hours and I am glad that there is shade over my head, because the sun is not sparing us today either.

I will wait for the afternoon and go for a swim in the Indian Ocean.

The rest will develop while I am swimming.

What are my plans for 2026?

My plans for the year are not going to happen today, and they won’t happen in the near future.

As for plans, I think I came prepared for today.

During dinner yesterday, one of my friends suggested that we play a short but profound game. Let’s formulate our – non-financial – desire that we would like to achieve in 2026.

I didn’t have to think about it. I want to delve even deeper into my own consciousness. Although I’m further along, I feel that there is still more to come.

I wasn’t part of the game anymore, but I also know on a financial level what my goals are for the period ahead.

I’ve been swimmed in happiness all year. If this continues this year, then my life goals will also unfold similarly to tonight.
