50. | My new phone

In the post Getting ready with my tools I wrote 20 days ago that I still need to work on choosing a phone.

I haven’t even bothered with this issue since then. Last Thursday, my phone rang. A gentleman from my phone provider called me. The question was whether I had 5 minutes. I did, but it turned into 35.

The interesting thing here is the timing. They called me several times at the end of October last year, but I was in a LEAN training all week, so I couldn’t answer the phone, and in the case of such service provider inquiries, I don’t even call the number back. If I answer the phone then, things will definitely turn out completely differently.

The point is that I answered it now. I own 4 phone numbers, and the administrator called me saying that he had already analyzed the traffic data of the numbers. So he immediately suggested changing the package of 3 phone numbers. In exchange for 11 months of loyalty time, he promised a fairly significant discount, which I didn’t want to accept at first, but then I thought about it. I definitely don’t want to deal with this issue in the next 1 year, and besides, we’ve actually been with this provider for many years, so I probably don’t want to change in the near future.

So, after discussing the changes in detail, we redesigned the tariff packages. Then the question came whether I didn’t want to buy a phone. I said I would, but not now. He recommended a Xiaomi 13. I already knew from my previous research that it wasn’t suitable because it couldn’t handle eSIM. I told the agent that I wouldn’t live in this country in a few months, so an eSIM-capable phone was among my preferences. And interestingly, he was able to recommend one right away.

The device is an Honor Magic 7 lite 5G 256GB, in black.

The device is ultra-durable and waterproof, has up to 3 days of battery life, and a 108MP AI-based camera. Even during the conversation, I checked to see if it could be used in Thailand. Yes. It has a 6000 mAh battery, which is a new development, which is why it can last up to 3 days. I also quickly checked the breakage test, so compared to my original ideas, it only does not achieve one thing: it is not smaller than my current phone.

However, in exchange for the 24-month loyalty period I agreed to for the only phone number, they brought it for free. The clerk was an incredibly nice gentleman, he apologized that he could not send it tomorrow (Friday). I assured him that 20 minutes ago I did not even know that I would have a new phone, so I will wait for it next week with infinite patience.

It arrived today. It is true that, contrary to the promise, I did not receive an SMS from the Hungarian Post Office that it had arrived. But since today was the only day of the week when I could go to the Post Office, I took a deep breath and went, just in case… The phone was there despite the missing notification. So I got it up and running tonight, and I’ll start using it in the next few days.

I’m glad this task solved itself so successfully.
