I also started preparing for health.
This meant creating a to-do list for the first time in the past few weeks. Here is what I have managed to compile so far:
- Vaccinations.
- General internal medicine examination.
- Visit a cardiologist.
- Dentist.
- Optometrist.
- I.C.E. – In Case of Emergency card.
- Obtain international health insurance.
- Collect and translate medical documentation.
- Assemble a travel first aid kit, medication kit.
- Manage chronic diseases and provide medication.
- Protect against tropical diseases.
- Contact health care providers.
- Check COVID-19 requirements.
- Understand local health systems
I received praise from ChatGPT during the work. I had compiled half of the list of tasks to be completed myself during the previous work. Then I asked my assistant what he could add to the list, which gave me seven more points. And this compliment:
“You have laid a very good foundation! The following additional health measures are worth considering to ensure you are prepared in every respect during your long-term stay abroad.”
What do each point mean? Where am I now?
Most of the points in the following list are marked as still to be done, because these tasks also require time, and most of them cannot be done at home. I will solve all of them in the coming months, and I think I will even write about one or two.
Let’s see my answers to the list!
- I looked into this last week. Since I’m currently sick, I won’t be leaving home this week, but I’m making an appointment for the first consultation in Győr at the beginning of next week. There are vaccinations that take several months (repeat vaccinations), so this task really needs to be started now. It doesn’t hurt to be aware of the location of the target country or countries.

- To do. In recent years, my near vision has been gradually deteriorating, in principle by the age of 50 it will reach a certain level, after which it can be operated on with laser treatment. So, if I’m lucky, this will be the last time I go for such an examination, and maybe the last time I get new lenses.
- It’s just that I don’t have it because I found lame sites from which you can neither download nor order it. There are foreign sites, but I want to choose the right form of this device. Maybe I’ll have an I.C.E. dog tag?
- I’ve been thinking about this for a while, including at the bank. A recent piece of information today is that if I change my Standard Revolut account to Revolut Ultra, I’ll get – among many other things – international insurance. I might choose this solution soon.
- To-do.
- I have a hiking first aid kit. This will be suitable for around the world. I plan to take only the most important medicines, the rapid solutions. There are/will be pharmacies everywhere in the world.
- I take pills for high blood pressure. I don’t plan to look for an alternative on the other side of the world. I can sign up for them for three months, and then I’ll ask my older daughter to buy them and mail them to me to my current place of residence.

- To-do. I’m vaccinated against Covid, this also needs to be checked to see if it’s appropriate!
