124. | Missing post: The vaccines

This article is about the preparations.

I already wrote about the schedule in previous posts, but here’s a reminder: I was at the vaccination center four times. The first time I got two shots, and the next three times I got four each time. I got everything in my shoulders, half and half.

After the first time, I didn’t feel anything. The doctor prepared me for the possibility of side effects, but fortunately there weren’t any.

A few days after the second time, I felt strange for a few hours, like someone who was just recovering from an illness. A few days after the third time, I was completely out of it for three-quarters of a day. I slept a lot.

I didn’t have the opportunity to do that after the fourth time, because my friend and I went straight from the vaccination center to the Tatra Mountains.

Mom asked me one time if the shots hurt. Of the 14 injections, there were two that I felt at all, not the prick, but the movement of the vaccine into my body. However, I said even then that the money I had to shell out for those 4 sessions and the 14 vaccines hurt much more than the pricking sensation. The total price of the little yellow book was 550 thousand HUF. I can say that I have never had such an expensive book.

In addition to the vaccinations I received for Asia, I requested one vaccination that would be exciting because of my other plans. I should add, because of my other plans that are not planned yet. The yellow fever vaccination is only interesting because of South America and Africa, but since I want to get there, I gave it to myself now. I can only afford that much luxury, right?

When I opened the booklet at home. I was disappointed. Yellow fever was not listed among the vaccinations. Even though I was sure that we had talked about it and asked for it to be administered. Then, when I digitized the booklet, fortunately it turned out that yellow fever was listed on a separate page.

The preliminary fears

The doctor prepared me for everything, especially diarrhea. I arrived prepared that I would definitely spend the first few weeks sitting on the toilet, because even a drop of water would kill me. I’m approaching my third week here and the curse hasn’t set in yet… Mosquitoes have certainly feasted on me, but so far there’s no sign of any infection. Maybe just the tiny skin infection mentioned in one of the posts, which disappeared almost immediately with the help of the ointment.

Despite this, I don’t regret having these vaccines in me. Consider this question carefully if you intend to live in a new environment.

Finally – as a deterrent – here is a list of the active ingredients.
