301. | A little story about a little something

This article is just a little something about a little nothing.

A few lines of remembrance about a handful of kindness.

Three bags of rice

A few weeks ago, my German friend and a Dutch guy were walking through the rice fields of Ninh-Binh.

I saw a woman who wanted to load three bags of rice onto her small motorbike.

Here in Asia, they don’t really know the expression “It’s impossible to do it with a motorbike!” I’ve seen incredible things loaded, in all sorts of ways. So I don’t even think about why we would load 150 kilograms of rice onto a motorbike.

I immediately jumped over and helped the woman load one of the bags. My two friends loaded the second one, and I was curious if I could handle another 50 kilos, so I put the last one on top of the pile.

Later, I found out that the woman had met my German friend on the street. She recognized him, they might have exchanged a few words.

The next day, the woman visited my friend and gave him a large box of cookies.

My friend waited for me to open the box.

On our last morning together, we halved the gift.

And maybe we will carry this memory together.
