200 days ago I wrote about “I’ve leveled up in Google Local Guides.

This happened again this morning.

Or rather, I did it again.

Why?

I wrote the whys before.

I simply find joy in this activity.

And I believe, not unchanged, but with a much firmer determination, that every honest contribution counts.

My method has changed

I used to write reviews occasionally. When I remembered, when I felt like it, I wrote.

Today, I look at the world with a completely different eye.

Not always there and immediately, but I rate a lot more places.

And in the process, I realized what I look for in a truly useful review.

Since then, I have been trying to pass this on.

The pace has accelerated

It took 10 years to get the first 5,000 points.

It only took 5 months to get the next 5,000 points.

It took 4 weeks to get the next 2,500 points.

And barely two hours to get the last 2,500 points.

Not because points suddenly became more important.

But because the way I contribute to Google Maps has completely changed.

My 2,000 photos have been viewed 800,000 times. I love those two numbers. I can believe that out of those 800,000, there were a few moments that brought joy to someone.
